HERO SPOTLIGHT – RICHARD BEETEN
October 29

This is Richard Beeten’s story, shared on behalf of Heroes of the Treasure Coast.
Richard has been married to his wife Paula for 49 years. Together they have raised twins, Kevin and Jennifer, and are proud grandparents to five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
After 35 years with Publix, Richard retired and found a new mission that came straight from the heart.
Six years ago, shortly after the anniversary of 9/11, he began flagging on the bridge, a gesture that was born out of remembrance. The tragedy of that day stayed with him, and he wanted others to recognize the lives lost and to honor those who continue to serve including our military, law enforcement, firefighters, and everyone who dedicates their lives to protect and serve.
What started on Picos Road grew into a familiar sight across the community. Richard now waves the flag proudly from Graham Road over I-95 and the South Beach Bridge.
When you see him there, know that it is not about politics, it is about America.
It is about unity, respect, and honoring the flag that represents all who serve our country.
When you see him there, know that it is not about politics, it is about America.
It is about unity, respect, and honoring the flag that represents all who serve our country.
Richard believes that while we may have differences and personal beliefs, the one thing that should always bring us together is our love for this nation.
“When I’m on that bridge, it’s about AMERICA,” he says. “And if you live here, you need to respect that.” Richard Beeten
